Kids Sailing Camp in Sag Harbor — Ages 9 to 16

Our Kids Sailing Camp in the Hamptons is more than a sailing program. It’s a full summer adventure on the water. Each week, campers ages 9–16 learn to sail and confidently steer a real boat while exploring everything the waterfront has to offer. Beyond sailing, campers spend their mornings swimming, fishing, clamming, paddleboarding, and riding SEABOBs. It’s the perfect blend of hands-on sailing instruction, exciting watersports, and outdoor exploration.

Led by an experienced Sag Harbor Sailing captain, each group stays small to ensure personalized attention, safety, and a fun, hands-on experience. With expert guidance throughout the week, every camper builds real skills, gains confidence, and creates lasting memories on the water. If your child loves being outdoors and can’t get enough of the water, this is the camp they’ll be talking about all year.

Policies

Deposits

Full payment is due at booking. Dates/times can be changed when you notify us in writing of your request >90 days before sailing date. If booking in January, February or March we allow 50% deposit these months. Kindly text any request at time of booking.

Weather & Cancellations

We have a no-rain and small craft advisory policy so we do not set sail if it is currently raining or rain is imminent in the forecast. We also obviously care about your safety, so we will not set sail in inclement weather and during any small craft advisory. We will generally make those decisions 2-hours before sailing time. If our captain decides not to set sail that day, due to rain or if a small craft advisory is in effect, you will have the option to receive a rain date for a period of 28 months. This allows you 3 summer seasons to reschedule. We will apply your payment and you will receive that credit to sail again within the next 28 months.

Once a client books a boat we notify all subsequent inquiries that “the boat is taken and unavailable”. For this reason we do not offer any refund on cancellations. If you cancel a reservation up to 90 days before your sail date, we do allow a no-cost change of date. Inclement weather as stated above is the sole reason for any cancellation.

Please click the “Booking Calendar” link above, check availability, and book away!

Cleaning Fees

Any vessel returned that requires additional clean up will be charged $50.00.

Late Fees

Any vessel returning to dock after the agreed upon return time will be charged $75 and charged $75 again for every hour thereafter.

What Campers Do

Sailing is the heart of the camp. Campers learn how a sailboat works, how to read the wind, and how to steer and handle the boat themselves. By the end of a week, most kids can take the helm with real confidence. Older or returning campers go further and learn to captain the boat. Some sailing camps drill the same few skills all week. Ours mixes real sailing instruction with a wide range of watersports, so kids stay excited to come back each morning.

But a morning at camp is about more than sailing. Over the week, campers also:

  • Swim and play in the warm, calm bay water.
  • Paddleboard around the harbor.
  • Ride SEABOBs, the underwater scooters kids love.
  • Go fishing and clamming.

A Typical Morning

Camp runs as a morning session, from 9:00 a.m. to noon, Monday through Friday. That half-day rhythm is long enough for a full morning of activity and short enough that younger campers don’t burn out.

Sessions run by the week, and the camp operates across the summer, roughly from the start of July through the end of August.

You can sign your child up for a single week, several weeks, or even a single day. If you have a group of five or more friends, we can put together a custom week built around what your kids want to do most.

Each day takes up to ten campers, so the groups stay small. That means more time on the boat, more turns at the helm, and more attention from the staff. Kids aren’t waiting in a long line for their turn. They’re in the action. Drop-off and pickup are easy, right at our dock on Pine Neck Avenue in Sag Harbor.

Safety and Our Staff

The water is the whole point of camp, so safety comes first. Every camper takes a quick swim test before enrolling, and life jackets are worn on the dock and on the boats. Our staff includes a USCG-licensed captain and a sailing instructor, both with years of experience teaching kids on these waters.

We’ve run our sailing school in Sag Harbor since 1997, and we’re accredited by the American Sailing Association. The same people who teach our adult private lessons and certification courses run the camp. Your child learns real skills from real sailors, not just busywork.

The bays around Sag Harbor are calm and protected, which makes them a forgiving place for kids to learn. Parents can feel good knowing the conditions are gentle and the supervision is close.

What's Included and What to Bring

Camp includes the captain, the instructor, all the watersports equipment, and life jackets. You don’t need to bring any gear of your own. Everything the kids use on the water, from the boats to the boards to the SEABOBs, is provided and maintained by our crew.

Each day, campers should bring a swimsuit, a towel, sunscreen, and a snack. We provide water. A lot of the day means time in the water. We recommend a rash guard or a neoprene top for cooler mornings. Sneakers or water shoes that can get wet are a good idea too.

Pricing is set per week, with a per-day option if you’d rather start small. Reach out and we’ll walk you through the current rates and which weeks still have space.

What Kids Take Home

Beyond the fun, a week on the water in the Hamptons builds something real. Kids come away more confident, more comfortable around boats, and proud of skills they earned themselves. They make friends, spend a week off their screens, and learn to work together as a crew. Sailing rewards patience and teamwork, and that tends to stick. A lot of our campers come back summer after summer. Some grow into our older lessons and the Commodores Club down the road.
